Course Overview
The course provides a thorough examination of the commercial vehicle's air brake systems. It provides in-class training as well as hands-on training in the brake inspection prior to departure and how to help you pass taking the Motor Vehicle Branch Air Endorsement test. This class requires an active BC Driver's License.

Territory Acknowledgement
College of the Rockies serves communities in The East Kootenays. Air Brakes (Q Endorsement) (AIR01)
The course will cover the entire air brake system that was outlined through the Alberta Solicitor General, Motor Vehicles Division and culminates in an Alberta Air Brakes Q Endorsement. The students learn about how an air brake is maintained and used efficiently and includes inspection of the brake air system as well as ensuring the roadworthiness.
PREREQUISITE(S)/COREQUISITE: a minimum of 14 years of age with a valid Alberta Beginner's licence (Class 7) or a valid class 5 out of province license.
It is important to note that from September 1st, 2024 the price of the course will increase to $275.00.

Online Assessment: The FSI Online Airbrake Program is intended to be an opportunity to review and aid in study to those that will soon take the Alberta Air Brake Exam at the time of registering.
There is no end-of-course test, but it does include exercises and sample tests along with other activities.

Air Brakes Course And Test
The air brake class is a day-long course that is offered twice each week. It begins at 7:00 am for registration, and will end approximately at 4:00 pm. It is recommended to arrive 30 minutes prior so that you have enough time to register.
It consists of class theory as well as a practice portion.
The classroom portion is the theoretical part in the classroom, students learn the basics of brakes and the various components in the air brake system as well as how they operate. The aim of this class is to teach students how to check and ensure the system is operating at optimal performance. The other important thing is to show the student how to deal when the system fails.

After completing the theoretical after which the students will then be given an actual air brakes examination. The practical part of students will be taught how to conduct routine maintenance on air brakes.
At this point, the candidate will receive an official certificate that they can take into a register office in order to take the test.
This isn't an automatic update!
It is required that you sign this certificate to be eligible to be eligible for the "Q" endorsement to be added to the license you have.

I obtained my driver's license through Cameron in 1996. They taught me and I received some on-the working experience while driving to Vancouver as well as Winnipeg They even got me my first driving job me. 21 years later, and it's still me driving. The road isn't always for everybody However, you'll never find out if you never test it out.
MELT COURSES
The course is Government of Alberta mandated 113hrs in addition to 8.5 hours Air Brakes hours of training. The course comprises:
- 40.5 minutes of class instruction
- In-vehicle instruction for 57 hours
- 40 hours driving
- 18 hours of off-road actions (couple/uncouple back)
CLASS 1
1 Experience and Equivalency Automatic or Manual
Includes:
Total Hours: 40
Class: 12.5 hours
Yard Instruction: 6.5 hours
Cab Training: 21 hrs
- The class allows drivers who have a current Class 3 or 2 license holders. Drivers are able to complete a shorter version of the
- Class 1 training if they are able to prove 2 years of Driving knowledge.
- In order to be eligible for the Experience as well as Equivalency Program, motorists need to:
- * must have the valid Alberta Class 2 or 3 (not the endorsement S) driver's license
- * held at least an Alberta class 3 driver's license or an equivalent driver's licence from a different Canadian province for two or more consecutive years.
- * Have 2 or more years of experience in operating motor vehicles with 3 or more axles (vehicles which require at minimum an endorsement of class 3 to operate)

RESTRICTION REMOVAL
2 hours of brushing up, or for 10 hours if you've never using a manual transmission
90 min Road Test :

The program aims to assist students to get rid of the automatic restriction in ALBERTA in the event that students already have first class. The road test could take from 60 approximately 90 minutes.

- The price is not inclusive of the usage of the tractor for the road test conducted by the government. Class 3 license authorized to operate vehicles with more than two axles comprising all combinations of vehicles or a truck that has 2 axles that tow a vehicle having an official gross vehicle weight greater than 4,540 kilograms (but doesn't include semi-trailer vehicles).
AIR BRAKE
An endorsement Q is included in your license when you have passed an exam to test your knowledge at the registry

Training time: two hours of practice
Knowledge test at the register: $17.00
- Because this course will include an outdoor session lasting two hours in our backyard, participants must dress appropriately to the weather, put on closed-toed footwear (no sandals) and carry working gloves.
ROAD TEST PREP
(minimun 2 hrs) $199
It is necessary to rent the truck to test the road
- The test taker will be offered the choice of deciding the number of hours needed in order to become confident and be confident enough to pass the road test.
- This price doesn't include any tractor for the government road testing.
